She moved to the U.S. in 1997 to pursue a Master's in Educational Computing and Technology, arriving with no English. She began her teaching career in Framingham, MA, U.S., and later taught in Venezuela, Thailand, and Ireland.

In 2015, Leonela returned to Boston, developing an innovative learning method to challenge myths about learning English as an adult.

Committed to reducing the English gap in Massachusetts, she founded English 4 Life in 2019, empowering Latinos to communicate confidently and expand their personal and professional opportunities.
