Siddharth Pannir, is the founder and chief engineer at GenH, a next-generation clean energy technology company. GenH pushes the potential of advanced energy systems with technologies are highly productive and achieve economic parity with existing fossil fuel systems without subsidies.

The Business Challenge

With a rising global population and increasing urbanization, the agricultural sector is facing a shortage of farmable land in conjunction with exorbitant energy and natural resource usage. Sustainable and efficient farming systems need to be developed that utilize renewable energy to maximize energy savings while also increasing crop yield on more compact tracts of land.

The Project Outcomes

A team of six bioengineering graduate students conducted research on which crops were most successful at carbon sequestration while performing a techno-economic analysis on the growth of multiple crops in a scaled-up system. This research demonstrated that vertical containerized farming has the potential to provide greater carbon capture and make use of farmland more sustainably than traditional agricultural practices.
